FAQ
1. Why is pizza steel better than stone?
The thermal conductivity coefficient for steel is many times higher than for popular baking stones, which is most important in the case of home ovens, which do not reach such high temperatures as in professional pizza ovens. This allows you to achieve a much more baked bottom of the pizza than baking on a stone.
2. Why pizza steel needs to be thicker than a normal sheet into the oven?
With the increase in the thickness of the steel, its weight increases significantly, and thus the amount of heat it is able to accumulate and give back during baking. This allows you to perfectly bake the bottom of the pizza in a short time.
3. What temperature does pizza steel heat up to?
An oven capable of reaching a maximum temperature of 250°C will be able to heat steel to approximately 350°C in 30-35 minutes, assuming that it is located 5-7 cm from the top heaters.
4. How to prepare the pizza steel for baking after receiving it?
After receiving the steel, it must be washed, dried, oiled and fired in the oven. For detailed information, please visit this link.
5. How to bake pizza on pizza steel?
6. How to care for pizza steel?
Remove food residue after use. It is particularly well suited for this scraper or spatula that are available in our store.
Steel can also be washed under warm running water, using dishwashing liquid, then wipe it dry. Do not allow water to drip.
If rust spots appear on the steel surface, they can be easily removed with fine sandpaper or a wire brush. Then, coat the steel with oil and fire again according to instruction.
7. Will the pizza steel rust over time?
Properly prepared steel does not rust. However, if the surface layer is scratched, in contact with moisture, rust will appear on the surface of the steel. In this case, we recommend rubbing the place with a steel brush or sandpaper to get rid of rust. After such an operation, it will be necessary to repeat the firing with oil, according to this one instructions.
8. How many years will my pizza steel last?
Steel is eternal, it is practically impossible to destroy it. Even if used incorrectly, it will only cover with rust, which can be removed and then burned according to this one instructions.
9. Why does pizza steel change color over time?
The steel arrives in gray. However, after proper firing, it takes on a dark gold color, which over time will change color towards black. This is due to the burning of the oil used to season the steel.
10. Will the pizza steel fit in my oven?
We recommend measuring the distance from the door glass to the fan guard, which is usually the most important depth limitation. However, the width should be measured taking into account the guides.
11. What can I use pizza steel for?
Baking pizza is just one of the many ways to use steel. You can easily bake all kinds of bread, but also meat. Such steel can also be used as a frying pan on the grill or campfire.
12. What is the difference between pizza steel and raw steel?
Our pizza steel goes through several technological processes that clean the surface of the raw steel from the layer of oxides formed in the steelworks during hot rolling.
13. What is the difference between 8 mm pizza steel and 6 mm pizza steel?
At both thicknesses, the pizza will be equally well baked.
The difference is that 8mm steel takes a little longer to heat up but retains more heat, so it's ideal for baking more than 2 pizzas at a time, whereas if you plan to bake 2 pizzas and occasionally more, 6mm steel will suffice.
14. Is pizza steel food safe?
Our pizza steel is the only one that guarantees safety in contact with food, because it meets all EU requirements for materials and products intended for contact with food, which is confirmed by laboratory tests carried out by the State Sanitary Inspection and our declaration of conformity. In addition, our company is under the constant control of the State Sanitary Inspection.
